John Vorrasi, longtime cantor and OLMC business manager
died on Monday, February 23rd, following a long battle
with leukemia. For nearly thirty years
(1984-2013) John's glorious tenor voice was heard at
most every Mass, wedding, funeral and sacramental
occasion here at
Our Lady of Mount Carmel , inspiring our
congregations with his musicality and artistry. Under
the pastorate of Fr. Thomas Healy, John and music
director William Ferris brought our church's music
program to a richness and beauty rarely heard at
parishes in the United States. John premiered many of
the hundreds of sacred works that Bill wrote for our liturgies. He also served as the parish business manager
for many years.
For all who knew John, he was a man of culture and
intelligence, and as a friend he was as loyal as they
come; his wit, charm, and wicked sense of humor made you
glad to know him. I will particularly miss accompanying
him at Mass - whenever we made music together you knew
you were playing for an artist of unique talents.
Requiescat in pace, dear friend.
