Pope John XXIII's Prayers

Prayer to Saint Joseph
Saint Joseph, guardian of Jesus and chaste husband of Mary,
you passed your life in loving fulfillment of duty.
You supported the Holy Family of Nazarethwith the work of your hands.
Kindly protect thosewho trustingly come to you
You know their aspirations, their hardships, their hopes.
They look to you because they know you will understand and protect them.
You too knew trial, labor, and weariness.
But amid the worries of material life, your soul was full of deep peace
and sang out in true joy through intimacy with
God's Son entrusted to you and with Mary, His tender Mother.
Assure those you protect that they do not labor alone.
Teach them to find Jesus nearand to watch over Him faithfullyas you have done.

Text Prayers
  •  Father Most Holy, sanctify the sons and daughters who have consecrated themselves to you, for the glory of your name. Enfold them with your power, enabling them to bear witness that you are the Origin of all things, the one Source of love and freedom. We thank you for the gift of the consecrated life, which in faith seeks you and in its universal mission invites all people to draw near to you. Jesus our Saviour, Incarnate Word, as you have entrusted your own way of life to those whom you have called, continue to draw to yourself men and women who will be, for the people of our time, dispensers of mercy, heralds of your return, living signs of the Resurrection and of its treasures of virginity, poverty and obedience. May no tribulation separate them from you and from your love! Holy Spirit, Love poured into our hearts, who grant grace and inspiration to our minds, the perennial Source of life, who bring to fulfilment the mission of Christ by means of many charisms, we pray to you for all consecrated persons. Fill their hearts with the deep certainty of having been chosen to love, to praise and to serve. Enable them to savour your friendship, fill them with your joy and consolation, help them to overcome moments of difficulty and to rise up again with trust after they have fallen; make them mirrors of the divine beauty. Give them the courage to face the challenges of our time and the grace to bring to all mankind the goodness and loving kindness of our Saviour Jesus Christ.

  • A Prayer for the Elderly Survivors of Hurricanes
O Lord, the elderly have served you, given birth to, and raised us to serve you, and all who are in need.
They have been placed in harm's way, in the path of swirling winds and torrential floods.
    escaping with only their lives.
O Lord, help them as they have in their lifetimes helped others.
Preserve them according to your mercy and love.
They have shed light and love on us.
Give them healing and peace and sustenance in their time of need.
For this we pray, bound to them and to You.
    In Love and loving-kindness.
    Dr. Eugene J. Fisher
  • A Prayer for those with special needs affected by Hurricanes Irma and Harvey
    Good and gracious God,
We offer you our love in this time of weather chaos.
We ask you to embrace in a special way those less able to care for themselves.
We pray especially for those who can’t move or walk and need another for help.
Help us to remember the goodness of water and wind instead of destruction.
Send those who love their neighbor to those with special needs to assist them.
Let us love our neighbor by offering ourselves to them in mind and heart and body.
Be with all of us as we pray for each other and those who can’t.
We ask you to embrace all those who perished in the storms.
We bless all those who reach out to those cognitively unable to speak.
Continue to help us, Lord, in this time of stressful storms.

  • Prayer for those who died, were injured, or suffered loss from Hurricane Irma
Lord, we pray for all those who died or were injured or suffered loss because of hurricane Irma.
Accompany them in their struggles and suffering.
Reassure them that life is not ended but changed and that you continue to draw them to yourself.
Keep faith, hope, and love alive in all our hearts, especially when we feel tested beyond our strength.
Hold in your loving and provident care all your sons and daughters who make their journey home to you now and forever.
